Do you even life, bro?
It was perhaps inevitable that if anybody was going to take the next step in “people simulation” it would be Will Wright, the designer who was behind the SimCity series. And that’s exactly what he’s done with The Sims, a game – I guess you can call it a game, although as is Wright’s trademark, you never really win or lose – that allows you to create and control the lives of virtual people known as “Sims”. Indeed, at its core The Sims is a sort of virtual people farm of everyday life management.
The concept at its foundation – the interactive simulation of a person’s everyday life and all that it entails – is ambitious in the extreme, and amazingly the design does it ample justice. The lives of the Sims under your control are faceted and detailed enough that, just like all of us in the PC Gamer office who have become curiously entranced, you’ll actually find yourself believing that you’re living somebody else’s life vicariously. Your Sim becomes a virtual alter-ego through which you can attempt to make real your dreams – or, perhaps, nightmares.
Live The Way You Want
The Sims is essentially divided into two sections – a “Live” mode in which your Sims work, play, and interact, and a Buy/Build mode that freezes time to allow you to change the environment. The heart of The Sims is a leafy suburban neighborhood comprising pre-built houses of various size and value, along with several vacant lots to build new residences on. From the very beginning – acquiring a house and furnishing it – you’re in management mode, trying to balance your tastes against the meager $20,000 you start out with.
As more money becomes available throughout the game, so to does your freedom to buy from the game’s extensive catalog of furniture, decorations, appliances, gadgets, and other material trappings, and to roll up your sleeves and remodel the house itself with a powerful architectural tool that allows you to design everything from the house’s overall layout to the wallpaper, carpet, windows, and staircases.
When you’re not sprucing up your house with the latest furniture, TV sets or pool tables, you’re actively managing the everyday lives of your Sims. This being more of a computer toy than a game proper, the user is free to define their own objectives, but as in real life, you’re encouraged to achieve social and professional success which in turn are the key factors in determining overall happiness.
- Expect burglars if you have an oppulent home!
- Whoops! The dishwasher broke.
- A view of the neighborhood.
Social Musings
Once putting your Sim on a career path, either by perusing the newspaper or online job listings, career advancement becomes a major goal. After struggling up through the low pay and long hours inherent to the lower ranks of whatever career you chose (everything from medicine and politics to sports, entertainment, and a life of crime is possible), you can start earning some serious cash, which can afford better home improvements (which, in turn. enhances the happiness of our materialistic Sims).
The other key goal of The Sims is to develop an active social life, and it’s here – interacting with other Sims in the neighborhood – that the game throws up some of its most satisfying treats. Socializing is mandatory if you want to get ahead, since a Sim’s social rating is one of the key contributors to overall happiness and promotion to the higher career levels also requires that a certain number of Family Friends be maintained.
As you get to know the Sims in your neighborhood, you can call them and invite them over. Once you’ve gained the pleasure of their company, you can chat, play, joke, flirt… whatever it takes to get them to like you. Certain household items can help move things along – well, wouldn’t you be more likely to visit a friend if you knew he had a big-screen TV? A horoscope system adds an extra layer of complexity, with astrological compatibility affecting Sims’ predisposition toward each other. Get friendly enough and Sims may become romantically inclined toward each other, and even move in and start a family.
The Sims 2 Digital Download Vs Disc
It may be pointless in the long run – with no aging or clear objectives, one can only take The Sims as far as achieving a successful career and perhaps moving into a luxury mansion. Make it high enough and you’ll be throwing lavish parties with your pals down by the swimming pool. Getting there isn’t easy, requiring weeks of playing and exploring all of the game’s charming minutia. In the end, there’s one thing that’s safe to say about The Sims – you can’t find anything quite like it.

- There really is no difference between a digital or physical copy; besides that one is digital and the other is physical.2
- There really is no difference between a digital or physical copy; besides that one is digital and the other is physical.
Other than, perhaps, the physical bonus goodies like the afore-mentioned keychain and the fancy book. - I'd rather have the game than have a case to stare at or a keychain.
That's just me though. If I can get a game digital, I get it digital. I just prefer it.
Last game I bought a physical copy was GTA V of September last year. And that was because I wanted the special edition and limited edition guide. - I'm buying the Digital deluxe version, even after getting burned by SIMCITY, but as far as this game goes, I'll eventually buy a Disk version, I will always have the D.D. Codes for the content, but if for some reason it won't work anymore The disk version always will. as long as I don't mess with it.
I can't wait for 1 day 1 hour and 18 minutes to pass, I want to play TS4. - I've been debating the issue myself. As a matter of a fact, I was just discussing the digital download versus going out to purchase the disk at midnight with my husband. I came into the thread to see what people had to say that might influence my decision one way or the other.
I'm torn between playing it an hour sooner or having the little plumb-bob key chain which I'm not even sure I'll get with the physical copy since Walmart.com said it was a pre-order thing.
I actually have a preorder card I purchased at walmart, but I have had issues in the past where the walmart did not have the game on the day of release, so I am just thinking of going with digital download.2 - Yes, the Walmart in the town where I live never has anything so I would have to venture a little piece down the road to the next closest WM to get it. If that fails I'd go to the Walmart that I actually shop at (when I rarely shop there). I'm sure they will have it.
- Just checking, but no one actually has their game downloading yet, right? I thought that once you purchased it it would start downloading, but now it says that it will be preloading at a later time. ie, not just yet.
- going digital easier and all my games on steam on digital.
- They say you can only download so many copies of your digital downloads but I've never once had an issue and I have changed computers, gotten new harddrives, reinstalled windows, upgraded windows, reinstalled windows again. never had a problem.3

Dont quote me, but I think I have read where people are pre-downloading the game, but if you live in an area where it comes out at a later date, you cant pre-download just yet.0 - Yeah, that gets tricky where I live. I'm overseas in Japan but with a US IP address. It says it'll preload September 2nd at midnight local time (so around 8am September 1st Pacific time) and be available to play September 4th at midnight (8am September 3rd Pacific Time).
- edited September 2014I usually always bought the physical copies for the sims series, but decided to go digital with the Sims 4. To me it seemed more convenient and with Sims 4 using Origin as the launcher now it made sense to me to just convert to digital. Even physical copies of the game have to register through Origin and the game will always use Origin to launch the game regardless. If you don't have internet, it will launch the game through Origin using offline mode.
While the game may be the same, The DL may have some form DRM like it was with Sims 3 DL where you had a limit that you can install, whereas with disc you can install on as many computers you want, but only play on one at a time.No. Disks are physical, digital is digital..lol.
That's something that makes me nervous about a digital download.
Me too. That's why when I get it, I'll go physical & just register w origin- The only real difference is with digital, you don't need a disc to play the game and don't have to worry about losing your disc.
no you just have to worry about EA taking it away from you. since if its digital it isnt your property.. your just renting it and they can remove it whenever they see fit.
If they shut down the activation server, even your physical disk could stop working too since it too needs activation..Anyway, just something to consider.Thank you EA and thank you Maxis.we got our babies back, Yay!
Similar situation with me, I can start preloading at 3.00 on the 2nd (Australia)Yeah, that gets tricky where I live. I'm overseas in Japan but with a US IP address. It says it'll preload September 2nd at midnight local time (so around 8am September 1st Pacific time) and be available to play September 4th at midnight (8am September 3rd Pacific Time).0- you can play when you´re offline..just log in to Origin..you will access in offline mode.try it2

how do you do this? I have all the sims 3 disks registered on origin but I am still required to put in the game disk to play every time. Not sure what we are missing lol - > @JuanGartner said:<br />

You would have to download it from origin in order to not have to use the disc1 - I think physical is better because I had over 10 sims 3 games and I broke my laptop. when I went back on to origin a year later. they were all gone like it never happened I was really upset by this because I lost the disc and I couldn't receive anything back.
- If I buy sims 4 online. Do i need to be connected to the Internet to play?

Hello @Wic
You don't need to be connected to the internet to play the game. You do need though to connect to the internet first to register and acticate the game. It is also good to play the game once, whilst connected to the internet. Then you can click the origin label at the top of the screen in origin, then choose to 'go offline' from the drop down menu.
You will still need to log in to Origin when playing the game , but you won't be online.

The Sims 2 Pc Download
The Sims 2 is a Simulation game for PC published by EA Games in 2004. Simulate the life time of a person from the beginning of life to death!
The Sims 2 PC Game 2004 Overview:
Experience and control a sim from the beginning of life to death. Give birth to a sim and keep it satisfied during its life time.
The main part of the game is to lead a Sim from the start of life to death. A Sim will be born when a female Sim and a male Sim try for a baby. The mother will spend 3 Sim days (each day lasts 24 minutes though time can be sped-up) pregnant before giving birth to a baby. During Pregnancy, the belly does not expand gradually.
Instead, every day, it “pops” to a bigger size. Players can name the new Sim upon birth. The baby’s appearance and personality will be based on the genetics of its parents (though the baby’s appearance is hidden until it becomes a toddler). Babies can also be adopted by calling the social worker on the phone, even by single parents or same-gender couples.
Uemodel. The baby will change into a toddler in 3 days, and 4 more days for the toddler to change into a child. After 8 days, the child grows into a teenager, and will live 15 days before changing into an adult. After 29 days, the Sim will become an elder. An elder will eventually die; the length of this final stage depends on the aspiration bar when they become an elder.
Features of The Sims 2:
- Bubble blowing machine
- Playable Zombies (they live forever, and can bite others if you use the right mods)
- Easy-to-build neighbourhoods, which are also easy to customize
